Ashtray made of plaster. Do-it-yourself ashtray with a metal lid with photos and videos How to make an ashtray from a plastic bottle

Buying a lot of country accessories involves serious waste, but today we are learning to save and making some of them with our own hands. Garbage cans, trash cans and ashtrays for the dacha using improvised materials - it’s not as difficult as it might seem!

Of course, many are already accustomed to using an old bucket instead of a trash can, and a small glass jar instead of an ashtray. It is quite possible that it is convenient and inexpensive, but such devices do not have any appearance, or rather, they spoil many of our achievements in design and decoration with their too simple appearance. That is why we decided to find a way to correct the situation and tried some hand-made work on ourselves, thereby learning how to make trash cans and ashtrays for the dacha with our own hands. Everything is very simple, and now we will tell you how to do such interesting things yourself without a lot of money and time.

Trash can made of plastic bottles

You can make a garbage can for use in your country house from a variety of available materials, but we were most interested in the production from plastic bottles, which can be considered a free construction component. That’s right, because there are plenty of bottles at every dacha; they remain after water and drinks, after large gatherings, and there is no point in throwing them away.

The first thing we need for production is a metal frame, which can be made from wire, aluminum plates and even a metal profile for drywall. By and large, we will need only 2-3 identical elements of an oval, round or rectangular shape to construct the base, top of the tank and the middle jumper from them. Having adjusted all sizes and shapes, you can proceed to the next stage.

For this we need 2-4 pieces of reinforcement or the previously mentioned profile. These metal elements are necessary to fasten the main parts together and make racks. You can choose reinforcement and tie it with ovals or circles with wire, or you can bend the U-shaped profile for drywall into one plane, and connect the posts from the profile to the main parts with clamps or even rivets.

When the frame of the homemade trash can is ready, we proceed to the final stage - we build the walls of the bin from plastic bottles.

So, for this we need steel wire, a nail, a mounting knife and pliers. First of all, we measure the pieces of wire according to the height of the tank and cut them taking into account the attachment to the upper, middle and lower parts of the structure. The length of each piece should be 20-30 cm greater than the height of the future tank.

Next, use pliers to clamp the wire on the bottom of the tank, throw several turns on the frame, put 1-2 bottles on the wire, make a hole in them with a nail, make several turns of fastening on the middle part of the frame, again a couple of bottles and now fastening to the upper part.

It is very advisable to think about the size, shape and color of the bottles in advance to avoid chaos. You can define a uniform pattern using bottles of the same volume and color, or you can transform the craft a little by choosing bright bottles.

Consistent fastening of the bottles and good tension of the wire, a tight fit of the bottles one to another vertically and in rows will ensure the high quality of the homemade garbage can. Of course, after production it is worth remembering that it is not intended for heavy waste and burning debris.

These bins can be created with or without a bottom, but today most of these bins and bins are created without a bottom so that they do not have to be turned over during cleaning. It will be enough to simply lift them.

A small urn made from an old bucket or barrel

Used tanks for liquid and bulk products should not be immediately disposed of in a landfill, because they can also serve well within the perimeter of a summer cottage. As an example, we would like to give old buckets and barrels, which can be easily converted into trash cans and small trash cans.

Any old bucket that is not too dilapidated, or a barrel that is not rotten, can become a garbage container in a gazebo, near a summer kitchen, and so on. To do this, we won’t have to upgrade much, but just adjust the tank to size, perhaps patch up the old holes a little, repaint it in a cheerful color and install it where necessary.

Buckets can be used almost immediately, but barrels often have to be trimmed a little because they are too large. After carrying out the simplest reconstruction work, you can upholster the tank with building materials - plastic, wood, thick cardboard, after applying patches of tin or aluminum sheet. That's it, now it's just painting in the desired color or a bright pattern to match the design style of the location.

DIY country ashtrays

Ashtrays in the country can be of two types - tabletop and floor-mounted.

Making a table ashtray

Each craftsman makes tabletop ashtrays in his own way in the country - he pours them from plaster, clay and other materials, carves them from wood or bamboo, cooks them or rivets them from metal. We offer the simplest, almost minute option, which many already know about. This is a beer can ashtray.

To make it, you will need an empty and clean tin of beer or soda. Its top should be carefully cut off with a knife, then, also carefully, but with scissors, the can should be dissolved vertically into a certain number of strips, leaving a little depth in the lower part, just a few centimeters. Now you need to wrap the strips down, rolling them into a kind of roll, and that’s it - the tabletop ashtray is ready.

Making a floor ashtray

With a floor-mounted ashtray for a summer house, things are a little more complicated, but not that much. You can use an old milk can or even a piece of a large-diameter stainless steel ventilation pipe to make it. With a can it’s a little easier, because you just need to throw a removable fine mesh over it, say, from an old construction sieve, and that’s it. Next, just some kind of decor, and the ashtray goes to its place of work. You will have to tinker with the pipe, since it will need to be attached to the bottom. But here also ingenuity comes to the rescue, and we simply place an old bucket inside or its carefully cut bottom, which, resting its edges on the inner circumference of the pipe, becomes the bottom. Now the mesh for the top and decorative decorations.

When working with metal forms and parts that need to be cut, we recommend that you be extremely careful and take all necessary safety precautions, as unpleasant injuries may occur.

How to make an ashtray for a summer house with your own hands (video)

As you can see, there is nothing supernatural in the manufacture of such accessories, and therefore, as soon as you have a free minute or an urgent need for a trash can, trash can or ashtray in the country, you can immediately begin production and complete the project within an hour or two.

An ashtray can be a good gift for dad, provided, of course, that he smokes. You can find many different ashtrays on sale, but if the item is made with your own hands, then this is already an exclusive gift.

Instead of making an ashtray from scratch, you can take an ordinary glass ashtray and decorate it with an original design. Glass ashtrays of simple shapes are an excellent base option; the design is well fixed on them and they look good. You can also use ceramics or clay.

To make an ashtray with your own hands, you need to prepare: the actual glass ashtray (preferably made of white glass), alcohol for degreasing the glass surface, a printout of the selected design, acrylic varnish, primer and acrylic paints.

The design for decorating the ashtray can be chosen based on the hobbies of the man for whom the gift is being prepared, for example, on the theme of hunting or fishing. In this case, a drawing of a lighthouse was chosen - marine themes are always in fashion.

How to make an ashtray with your own hands

    1. The ashtray is decorated using decoupage. To begin with, the glass surface of the ashtray is degreased with alcohol.
    2. The selected design is printed on plain A4 paper. The drawing must be the right size, that is, be the same diameter as the bottom of the ashtray.
    3. Cover the drawing with a layer of acrylic varnish and dry it.
    4. Cut out the pattern according to the diameter of the bottom of the ashtray.

  1. Pour some water into a shallow container and soak the printed design there for one minute (no more) until it gets wet. Then the image is removed from the water and gently dried with a towel.
  2. The back of the ashtray is sprayed with varnish (it is better to use aerosol varnish). The design is placed on the bottom of the ashtray with the image facing down and carefully smoothed with your fingers. For a tighter fit, you can roll over the design. Allow the drawing to dry well.
  3. Apply a special primer for decoupage or white paint to the image.
  4. The entire ashtray is covered with acrylic paint of the selected color (dark shades look good), and then with metallic bronze paint. Apply paint using blotting movements of the brush.
  5. The next layer of paint should be purple, it is also applied with blotting movements of the brush, and the third layer is again a bronze metallic. After all layers of paint have dried, the ashtray is coated with three layers of glossy varnish, which protects the paint surface from damage.

Smoking is one of the harmful habits that creates great inconvenience for others. Discomfort is caused by both harmful tobacco smoke and pollution of the surrounding area by ash and cigarette butts. There are special ashtrays for such consumers of tobacco products. Their wide range is presented on store shelves. However, some smokers prefer to use homemade ashtrays. Both empty matchboxes and other jars, as well as more complex products, are suitable for collecting ash. You will find information on how to make an ashtray with your own hands in this article.

The easiest way

Judging by numerous reviews, you can make an ashtray with your own hands from an empty cigarette pack. The master only needs to rid it of the inner foil liner, which will only get in the way. It is advisable that the closing part of the pack remains in place. In the future, it can be used to extinguish cigarettes. This is the easiest way, which does not require any tools or skills. The process will only take a few minutes.

DIY outdoor ashtray

Before starting work, you should get one tin can, metal scissors, pliers and gloves. An ashtray is made with your own hands as follows:

  • First, the top part of the can is cut off.
  • After this, you need to divide the walls of the container into several strips. According to home craftsmen, there should be at least 14 of them.
  • Then they should be bent so that they tip over each other. First, fold one strip and place it to the left, diagonally on the adjacent one. You need to do the same procedure with that one. At the end there will only be one strip left. It is simply removed.

Due to the fact that the strips cut from tin have very sharp edges, you need to work with them very carefully. Some home craftsmen do not bend the strips, but simply twist them using a match.

Second way

It will not be difficult to make an ashtray from a jar with your own hands, using paper tape, twine and glue. It will be easier to work if you follow the following sequence of actions:

  • First, the top of the can is cut off.
  • Then you need to wrap it with tape.
  • Afterwards, an adhesive composition is applied to the workpiece.
  • The product is being wrapped. Twine or rope is suitable as a winding.

Empty beer cans should not be thrown away immediately. You will find a use for them if you smoke and want to make your own ashtray. Photos of such homemade products are presented in the article.

Coconut handicraft

This method can be used by lovers of exotic fruits. For work you will need the hard part. The shape of the future homemade product will depend on how the nut was opened. After all the coconut meat has been extracted, the master processes the edges of the nut. It is desirable that they are even and level with each other. After this, you need to make several 10 mm recesses for cigarettes. To do this, a drill is brought to the desired place at the edge, which is used to make a recess. The homemade product will have fire-resistant properties if it is coated with a special varnish.

Product made from shells. What will you need?

Some craftsmen, when making ashtrays with their own hands, use the decoupage method. Seashells are suitable as decorative elements. Judging by numerous reviews, the best homemade ashtrays are made from glass. Unlike tin ones, they do not smell as strongly, and they do not have to be covered with a lid or hidden in a plastic bag. It is enough to shake out and wash the glass ashtray more often. Therefore, a jar or glass is suitable as a basis for a future product. An ashtray will look much more impressive if you decorate it. Therefore, before getting started, the home craftsman needs to get hold of the following tools and consumables:

  • Adhesive composition.
  • Twine or rope.
  • Craquelure substance.
  • Natural or artificial shells.
  • A sheet of paper with a nautical map printed on it.
  • Paint and varnish material.
  • With brushes.
  • Putty.
  • Card for decoupage.

Progress

To make an ashtray with your own hands, you need to do the following:

  • At the very beginning, the glass base is thoroughly cleaned and degreased. At this stage, experts recommend using alcohol.
  • After this, a printed sea map is glued to the bottom. This must be done in such a way that its front part is turned down. To remove excess paper, you will have to use sandpaper.
  • Then you need to apply a craquelure substance to the surface. With this coating, the handicraft ashtray is given a spectacular antique look.
  • After applying this composition, cracks will begin to form on the surface of the product. As they dry, they will become more noticeable. The home craftsman should wait until this substance dries completely.
  • Then the ashtray is carefully filled with bitumen compound. With it, judging by numerous reviews, the resulting cracks will visually look much more noticeable and deeper. Despite the fact that the instructions for the craquelure substance indicate that its top layer should be washed off, in this case this should not be done. This recommendation is due to the fact that a yellowish ashtray will better match the antique style.
  • At this stage, the product is primed. Putty is applied to the sides and rolled in shells and sand. Transparent acrylic varnish is evenly applied on top. This is necessary in order to securely bond the putty and sand together. When the varnish has dried, you can freely pick up the product without fear that the shells will fall off.
  • Large shells are attached using adhesive. Then they are painted.
  • Roll the twine into a snail and glue it to the bottom.

Alcohol can be used to remove excess paint. The product needs to be given several hours to dry.

Finally

For those who do not like to craft, we can advise using a simple plastic bottle. To prevent it from melting, you should pour a little water into it.

Let's consider several ways. One of the most popular is some kind of empty jar. Small metal instant coffee cans are ideal. You can also use a simple plastic bottle, cut to the size you need, as an ashtray. The main thing is to pour water into it so that the bottom does not burn out.

From a beer can:

Yeah! Did you think we were drinking? But no! We'll use a soda can, not healthy, but still better than beer)

Method 1:

To begin, we cut off the top of the can, then use scissors to divide the walls into strips (12-18 strips), and begin to bend the strips. We throw them over each other as in the photo until our ashtray is ready. Be careful, the edges of the can are very sharp!

Method 2:

After carefully removing the top of the jar, wrap it with paper tape, then spread glue over the entire surface of the jar and begin wrapping it with rope as in the photo. You will get a very beautiful and aesthetic ashtray from a jar, made with your own hands.

From wood:

I think the question of processing may be initially closed, since everyone has their own skills and equipment. Some people can make an ashtray with their own hands, using a hammer and nails, while others would like to make one from a single piece of wood, turning it and giving it the perfect shape...

However, for heat resistance of a wooden ashtray, use: Thermal (aluminum color) for painting stoves and pipes. Withstands temperatures up to +650 C. Thermal (black color), withstands temperatures up to +400 C. Manufacturer: “tikkurilla”. Both paints are silicone resin based. You can also use aerosol paints/varnishes for exhaust pipes.

From coconut:

Having eaten the contents of a coconut, a person, as a rule, becomes in demand for using this exotic product in his daily life. One such use could be an ashtray. The shape of the ashtray will come from how you opened the nut itself, then the edges will need to be brought to the same level. Pressing the drill bit against the edges of the nut, drill out cigarette recesses approximately 8-9 mm in diameter. To make your ashtray more fire-resistant, you can use the varnishes listed just above.

From a pack of cigarettes:

Taking an empty cigarette pack in your hands, get rid of the inner foil insert, they will only bother you. We also advise you not to tear off the closing part of the pack; it will be useful to you in order to conveniently put out your cigarette butt.

From turtle:

If your turtle has gone to another world. Don't worry, you can make a beautiful ashtray from its durable shell. To do this, you should carefully saw through the shell of the turtle, remove the corpse of the animal, burn the organic residues on a gas stove (it will stink), then go through it, first with coarse sandpaper, and then with fine sandpaper. To fix the shell, you can use the lower part of the shell (photo) or other available things.

Materials used:
- glass ashtray;
- printout with a drawing of a compass and map;
- acrylic paints and varnish;
- two-component craquelure composition;
- seashells (whole and broken);
- sisal twine;
- hot glue;
- white putty;
- sandpaper;
- artistic bitumen.

1. Completely clean the surface of the ashtray from dust, dirt and skin secretions.

2. We apply the printout to the bottom of the ashtray, choosing the best position. We glue it to the bottom with acrylic varnish, expel the air and excess moisture.

When the paper dries, remove excess paper with sandpaper along the edge.
3. Apply craquelure composition to the side part. Here you need to strictly follow the manufacturer’s recommendations, as some points may differ. In our case, we used a craquelure composition from Maimeri (Italy).
We fill the cracks with bitumen.

4. Mix ocher, white and yellow medium. The result is a shade close to the color in the center of the card. We use it to tint the outer part of the ashtray. After drying, apply acrylic varnish in several layers.

There is no need to worry if the layer seems insufficient in the light - we will fix everything in the next step.
5. Now we coat the sides with one or two millimeters of putty, at the same time gluing the crushed parts of the shells.

We coat it with acrylic varnish. This will prevent the layer of shells from falling apart and will stick them tightly to each other.

6. Using a hard brush, cover the outer part with burnt umber (dark brown acrylic paint).

Cover with acrylic varnish.
7. Glue the shells with hot glue.

8. Using a hard brush, tint the shells into a dark chestnut shade.

10. Use a dry brush and lemon yellow to highlight the relief.

11. Select the relief with white color.

13. Add a little pearly white.
